Thank you very much. False 9 is one of my favourite attacking roles; after all the discourse about out-and-out Centre Forwards, I had forgotten how much I like it..
Nothing fancy in the way of Player Instructions, Roam from Position on the attackers would be about it.
Another great article! Thank you for making FM24 fun and interesting for a lot of people again, we all appreciate it!
Out of interest, would love to hear your thoughts on trying to implement “relationism” in FM24. I get that certain elements might be tough to recreate properly with the match engine, but I’d still be really keen to hear how you think some of the other aspects can be achieved especially in a longer form content like this. I really enjoyed your FM23 relationism tactics. Thanks!
Thank you very much for the kind words. I am delighted to hear you are enjoying it and appreciate the support!
Relationism - to me - is a player-centric way of designing your tactical approach; rather than a system-centric approach like positional play.
That means it depends entirely on your team. For example, if you've got a naturally flamboyant and talented - but maybe a little lazy - Trequartista, in a positionist approach you may try to shoehorn him into a role within your system whereas in a relationist approach, you build a system that uses - and indeed maximises - a Trequartista.
Positionist systems tend to be a rational distribution of players across the field, whereas a relationist system might have clusters of players, but ultimately could be anything.
I will certainly add relationism to my list for future posts and in the meantime you can have a look at my twitter; I had a nice save with Palmeiras right at the start of FM24 and did a more Arsene Wenger-esq Arsenal system.
Thanks for getting back to me! Totally get where you’re coming from with the player centric approach, I’d just love to see that and other some other relationist aspects explored in a longer piece like this. That said, I always find myself revisiting your Twitter threads for ideas anyway haha. On a side note, I’ve noticed you don’t tend to use narrow width or focus play options much in your tactics, just curious what your thinking is behind that?
Do you have any player instructions?
Nothing fancy in the way of Player Instructions, Roam from Position on the attackers would be about it.
Does this include the False 9?
No, you can only have two players swap position (wingers).. False 9 roams 👍
What about player swapping positions with other players?
Yes, both wingers swap positions. Sorry I thought I’d specified that in the post but may have missed it. That’s what I’d intended with the arrows.
Ahh ok thanks
how do you think they would adapt with an out and out number 9 instead of a false 9?
Would be absolutely fine 👍 You'd offset a bit of fluidity but gain focal point in attack. If it better suits the players then go for it.
Brilliant post, I’d love to see you’re take on a roberto de zerbi inspired tactic 👌
I'll add it to the list, mate 👍
Brilliant post , never managed to get an F9 to work before they just seem to not really impact on play so really excited to give this a go,
Is there any player instructions ?

Actually, a very simple answer - I barely think it does anything at all.
It used to have a small impact on mentality, but not anymore. If it does do anything, I have never been able to notice..
